If you’ve never put lemon on pizza before, this Hot Honey Lemon Pizza is your sign to try it. The combination of fresh lemon, garlic, melty mozzarella, salty Parmesan, and sweet + spicy hot honey is unreal.

I made this pizza with my homemade sourdough pizza dough , but you can absolutely use your favorite homemade or store-bought pizza dough. The toppings are simple, so this is one of those recipes that feels a little elevated without actually requiring much extra work.

Why You’ll Love This Hot Honey Lemon Pizza

The star of this recipe is the lemon garlic olive oil. Instead of using a traditional red pizza sauce, olive oil is mixed with fresh lemon zest, minced garlic, and red pepper flakes and brushed directly onto the dough.

Then we add plenty of freshly grated mozzarella and Parmesan. Once the pizza comes out of the oven, the finishing touches are what really bring everything together: fresh lemon juice, flaky sea salt, and hot honey.

You get creamy, salty cheese, bright lemon, garlic, a little heat, and just enough sweetness from the honey in every bite.

Using Sourdough Pizza Dough

I used my homemade sourdough pizza dough for this recipe, and the ingredient amounts below make enough toppings for three of my pizzas.

Pizza dough recipes can vary quite a bit in size, thickness, and baking time, though, so use the baking temperature and time recommended for your specific dough.

If you’re using a thicker pizza crust that needs longer in the oven, I recommend waiting to add the Parmesan until the final 10 minutes of baking. Parmesan browns much faster than mozzarella, so this keeps it from getting too dark before your crust is finished baking.

Fresh Lemon Makes All the Difference

You’ll use lemon in two different ways in this recipe.

First, fresh lemon zest goes into the olive oil before baking. This gives you that bright lemon flavor without adding too much liquid to the pizza dough.

Then, as soon as the pizza comes out of the oven, finish it with a little fresh lemon juice. Adding the juice after baking keeps that fresh, citrusy flavor front and center.

I definitely recommend using a fresh lemon rather than bottled lemon juice for this recipe!

How To Make It

  1. Preheat the oven. Preheat your oven according to your pizza dough instructions (typically 475°F / 245°C).
  2. Make the lemon garlic olive oil. In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, minced garlic, lemon zest, and red pepper flakes to taste.
  3. Prepare the pizza dough. Working with one pizza at a time, roll or stretch the dough to a fairly thin pizza crust. This recipe makes enough for 3 of my homemade sourdough pizzas.
  4. Assemble the pizza. Spread a thin, even layer of the lemon garlic olive oil over the dough. Top evenly with the mozzarella, followed by the Parmesan.
  5. Bake. Transfer the pizza to a pizza pan or sheet pan and bake for about 15 minutes, or according to the instructions for your pizza dough, until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted. If your pizza dough requires a longer baking time, wait to add the Parmesan until the final 10 minutes since it browns more quickly.
  6. Finish and serve. Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately top with fresh lemon juice, a drizzle of hot honey, and flaky sea salt to taste. Slice and enjoy while warm!

Don’t Skip the Hot Honey

The hot honey is SO good with the lemon and salty cheeses. You can add as little or as much as you want depending on how sweet and spicy you like your pizza.

The red pepper flakes in the lemon garlic olive oil also give the pizza a little extra kick, but you can adjust those to taste or leave them out if you want the hot honey to provide all of the heat.

Tips for the Best Lemon Pizza

Freshly grate your mozzarella and Parmesan if you can. They melt so much better than pre-shredded cheese and give this pizza the best texture.

Don’t overload the dough with the olive oil mixture. You want an even layer across the crust without completely soaking it.

And make sure you add the lemon juice, hot honey, and flaky sea salt after baking. Those finishing ingredients are what make this pizza special.

What to Serve With Hot Honey Lemon Pizza

This pizza is delicious on its own, but it would also be perfect alongside a simple arugula salad, Caesar salad, or one of your favorite veggie sides.

It’s an easy option for pizza night but also feels fun enough to make when you’re having friends over. You could even slice it into smaller pieces and serve it as an appetizer.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover pizza in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days.

For the best texture, reheat it in the oven, toaster oven, or air fryer until the crust is crisp and the cheese is warmed through. I love adding another tiny drizzle of hot honey after reheating.
