A Little History on the Monte Cristo Sandwich
The Monte Cristo sandwich is an Americanized version of the French croque-monsieur. It gained popularity in the mid-20th century, especially after being featured at Disneyland’s Blue Bayou restaurant in the 1960s. Traditionally, it’s a ham and cheese sandwich that’s dipped in an egg batter (similar to French toast) and pan-fried or deep-fried to golden perfection. It’s usually served with powdered sugar and a side of jam, offering that irresistible sweet and savory balance.
In this version, we’re adding a hot honey twist to spice things up and bring a little extra flavor to this classic sandwich!
