  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon dried parsley

I love Primal Kitchen Caesar Dressing for an easy store-bought option, or you can use my homemade Caesar dressing.

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, egg, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and parsley. Mix until everything is fully incorporated.
  2. In a separate mixing bowl, combine the chopped romaine, toasted pine nuts, Parmesan, freshly cracked black pepper, Caesar dressing, and croutons, if using. Toss until evenly coated.

  5. Cook undisturbed for about 4 minutes, or until the chicken is golden brown and fully cooked through to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  6. Sprinkle freshly grated Parmesan over the tortilla, then carefully flip and cook tortilla-side down for about 1 additional minute, or until lightly crisp.
  7. Repeat with the remaining tacos, adding more avocado oil to the skillet as needed.
  8. Spoon a generous amount of Caesar salad onto the chicken side of each taco.
  9. Fold each tortilla in half and serve immediately with extra Caesar dressing and freshly grated Parmesan, if desired.

Tips for the Best Chicken Caesar Smash Tacos

Spread the chicken thinly. A thin, even layer of ground chicken helps it cook through quickly while developing a golden-brown crust.

Start with a hot skillet. Let your skillet heat up before adding the tacos. This helps sear the chicken instead of steaming it.

Don’t move the taco while the chicken cooks. Letting the chicken cook undisturbed helps create that delicious browned exterior.

Use freshly grated Parmesan. Fresh Parmesan melts and crisps much better than pre-shredded cheese.

Add the salad right before serving. This keeps the romaine crunchy and prevents the tortillas from becoming soggy.

What Tortillas Are Best for Smash Tacos?

You can use your favorite small flour tortillas for this Chicken Caesar taco recipe. I use Siete almond flour tortillas, but traditional flour tortillas work great too.

If using an alternative flour tortilla, keep an eye on it while cooking because some grain-free tortillas can brown more quickly than traditional flour tortillas.

What Caesar Dressing Should I Use?

You can use homemade or store-bought Caesar dressing. For a convenient option, I love Primal Kitchen Caesar Dressing.

Use as much or as little dressing as you prefer. I typically use around half a jar for one medium head of romaine, but I recommend starting with less and adding more until the salad is dressed to your liking.

FAQ’s

What are smash tacos?
Smash tacos are made by pressing a thin layer of meat directly onto a tortilla and cooking the meat-side down in a hot skillet. This creates a browned, flavorful crust while cooking the meat and tortilla together.

Can I make Chicken Caesar Smash Tacos ahead of time?
These tacos are best assembled immediately before serving so the tortillas stay crisp and the Caesar salad stays fresh. You can prepare the chicken mixture and chop the romaine ahead of time, then cook and assemble the tacos when you’re ready to eat.

How do I know when the ground chicken is cooked?
Ground chicken is fully cooked when the center reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).

Can I make these tacos gluten-free?
Yes! Use your favorite certified gluten-free tortillas and gluten-free croutons, or leave the croutons off entirely. Always double-check the labels on your Caesar dressing and other packaged ingredients if you need the recipe to be strictly gluten-free.

Can I leave out the croutons?
Absolutely. The croutons are optional and can easily be omitted. The toasted pine nuts still add plenty of crunch to the Caesar salad.

What should I serve with Chicken Caesar Smash Tacos?
These tacos are filling enough to serve on their own, but you can pair them with roasted vegetables, fresh fruit, crispy potatoes, or an additional side salad.

How to Store Leftovers

For the best texture, store the cooked chicken tacos and Caesar salad separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator.

Reheat the chicken tacos in a skillet or air fryer until warmed through and crisp, then add the cold Caesar salad immediately before serving.

The cooked chicken tacos can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days.

For the freshest Chicken Caesar Smash Tacos, only cook the number of tacos you plan to eat right away. Store the uncooked ground chicken mixture in an airtight glass container in the refrigerator and keep the prepared Caesar salad separate. When you’re ready to eat, simply assemble and cook the smash tacos fresh, then top with the Caesar salad just before serving. This keeps the tortillas crispy, the chicken fresh and juicy, and the Caesar salad cool and crunchy.
