Why Sirloin?

Sirloin is a fantastic choice for this stir-fry because of its tenderness and rich flavor. It holds up well to high-heat cooking and retains a delicious, juicy texture. The marbling in sirloin adds just the right amount of fat to keep the beef moist and flavorful, making it ideal for a dish that’s both crispy and succulent.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe:

  • Flavor Fusion: This dish combines the savory richness of sirloin beef with a vibrant, tangy orange sauce that brings a burst of flavor to every bite.
  • Texture Contrast: The sirloin is crispy on the outside while super tender and flavorful on the inside. The bell peppers and onions add a nice crunch too!
  • Quick and Easy: This recipe is a perfect dinner option when you’re short on time but still want something delicious and homemade. One pan meals are my go-to during the week!
  • Versatility: Don’t hesitate to customize! Try out different proteins & veggies!

For Serving

Feel free to enjoy this on it’s own like this, or what I like to do is serve it with some brown rice and make a little extra sauce to drizzle on top!

How To Make It

  1. Make your sauce by whisking together the sauce ingredients in a glass measuring cup. Set aside in the fridge.
  2. Pat the beef dry & slice into thin strips AGAINST the grain (to do this, cut adjacent to where you see the muscle fibers lined up).
  3. Combine the cornstarch with salt and pepper to taste. Toss each slice of beef in the cornstarch mixture until completely coated. This is key to getting that crispy outer later!
  4. Heat the oil in a wok or large frying over a high heat. Make sure it is hot or your beef will not crisp up!
  5. When the oil is hot, pour the beef in and fry until crispy. Try not to move the meat around too much as this reduces the amount of crispiness you get!! I only flipped my pieces two or three times. It should take about 5-6 minutes to crisp up the beef and for it to be cooked through.
  6. Once the beef is crispy and cooked through, remove and set aside on a plate.
  7. After the beef has been removed from the pan, there should still be a good amount of oil left. Turn the heat down to medium and add the sliced bell peppers and onion. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until slightly cooked down and the onions are more golden in color.
  8. Pour in your orange sauce. Turn up the heat and bring to a boil. Simmer for a few minutes to thicken.
  9. Add the sirloin back in. Give it a stir and heat through for a few more minutes. If your sauce is still looking thin, you can add in a slurry to thicken.
  10. Serve on it’s own like this, or with some brown rice. I also like to garnish with some green onions. Enjoy!

If Your Sauce Seems Runny

If your sauce is not as thick as you would like, add a slurry to it! Simply mix 1 tbsp cornstarch with 1 tbsp room temperature water and pour it into the sauce..

Why Get Grass-Fed Beef?

I can’t stress it enough on how important it is to get organic, grass-fed beef. Grass-fed beef offers a range of benefits that extend from nutritional improvements to environmental and ethical advantages. While it might come at a higher price point compared to conventional beef, many find the enhanced flavor, healthier fat profile, and positive impact on the environment well worth the investment. Whether you’re a health-conscious eater or simply looking for a more sustainable food choice, grass-fed beef is the way to go. Get high quality grass-fed, organic meat from ButcherBox here. Enhanced Nutritional Profile

  • Higher Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Grass-fed beef typically has a higher concentration of omega-3 fatty acids compared to conventionally raised beef. Omega-3s are essential for heart health and have anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Better Fatty Acid Ratio: Grass-fed beef generally has a more favorable ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids. This balance is crucial because a high omega-6 to omega-3 ratio is associated with various health issues.
  • Increased Antioxidants: Grass-fed beef is richer in antioxidants like vitamin E and beta-carotene. These antioxidants can help combat oxidative stress and support overall health.
  • Higher Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA): CLA is a type of fat found in higher amounts in grass-fed beef. It has been linked to various health benefits, including improved body composition and enhanced immune function.
  • Lower Total Fat Content: Grass-fed beef usually contains less total fat compared to grain-fed beef, which can be beneficial for those looking to manage their fat intake.

Better Flavor and Texture

  • Rich, Distinctive Flavor: Many people find that grass-fed beef has a more robust and distinctive flavor compared to conventionally raised beef. This is often attributed to the animal’s diet and natural grazing.
  • Lean Texture: The leaner nature of grass-fed beef can provide a firmer texture, which some people prefer.

Environmental Benefits

  • Sustainable Farming Practices: Grass-fed beef is often produced using more sustainable farming practices. Grazing cattle can help maintain healthy grasslands and contribute to soil health.
  • Reduced Carbon Footprint: Well-managed grass-fed beef systems can have a lower carbon footprint compared to conventional beef production, as they often require fewer inputs and can sequester carbon in the soil.

Ethical Considerations

  • Natural Diet: Grass-fed beef comes from cattle that are raised on a diet more natural to their evolutionary development. This can contribute to improved animal welfare compared to grain-fed systems.
  • Reduced Use of Antibiotics and Hormones: Grass-fed beef producers often use fewer antibiotics and hormones, which can be beneficial for both the environment and consumer health.

Health Benefits

  • Better for Heart Health: The higher omega-3 content and better fat profile in grass-fed beef can support cardiovascular health and reduce the risk of heart disease.
  • Support for Weight Management: The leaner nature of grass-fed beef can be part of a diet aimed at maintaining a healthy weight or reducing body fat.

Tips for Success:

  • Thinly Slice the Beef: Slicing the beef thinly against the grain ensures it cooks quickly and remains tender.
  • High Heat Cooking: Ensure your pan or wok is hot before adding the beef to get that perfect crispy texture.
  • Prep in Advance: Have all your ingredients prepped and ready to go before you start cooking. Stir-fries cook quickly, and being organized will make the process smoother.
