If you love banana bread but also love a good stack of waffles, my Greek Yogurt Banana Bread Protein Waffles are the perfect combination of both. They’re fluffy on the inside, lightly crisp around the edges, and packed with sweet banana and warm cinnamon flavor. Then, because banana bread obviously needs a little something extra, I finish them with a cinnamon streusel.

These have quickly become one of my favorite ways to switch up our normal breakfast routine. They have all those cozy banana bread flavors, but you get the crispy edges of a freshly made waffle — which might honestly be even better.

I also wanted to make these a more balanced, high-protein breakfast, so the batter is made with Greek yogurt and Naked Nutrition Vanilla Whey Protein Powder . You’re getting extra protein without sacrificing that fluffy waffle texture.

Whether you make these for a slow weekend breakfast, meal prep them for the week, or just need to use up those bananas sitting on your counter, this is such an easy recipe to keep on repeat.

What I love most about this recipe is that it transforms a classic breakfast into something much more satisfying. Thanks to the addition of Naked Nutrition Vanilla Whey Protein Powder and protein-rich Greek yogurt, each serving keeps you fuller for longer while still tasting like dessert.

Why You’ll Love These Banana Bread Protein Waffles

There’s a lot to love about this recipe, but especially how easy it is to make something that tastes like a fun weekend breakfast while still packing in plenty of protein.

  • Packed with protein: Greek yogurt, eggs, and Naked Nutrition Vanilla Whey Protein all help add protein to every serving.
  • Perfect for ripe bananas: The riper the banana, the sweeter and more flavorful your waffles will be.
  • Easy to make: Everything comes together with simple ingredients you probably already have on hand.
  • Warm banana bread flavor: Banana, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla give these all the cozy flavors of homemade banana bread.
  • Great for meal prep: Make a batch ahead of time and reheat the waffles throughout the week.
  • No artificial sweeteners in the protein powder: Naked Nutrition Vanilla Whey Protein is made without artificial sweeteners, flavors, or colors.

Greek Yogurt Makes These Waffles Extra Fluffy

Greek yogurt is one of my favorite ingredients to sneak into breakfast recipes, especially when I’m making pancakes or waffles.

For these Greek yogurt protein waffles, I use plain nonfat Greek yogurt. It adds additional protein while also giving the batter moisture and helping create that soft, fluffy center.

Between the Greek yogurt, eggs, and Naked Nutrition Vanilla Whey Protein, these waffles are much more satisfying than your typical waffle recipe while still tasting like an actual treat.

Ingredients You Will Need

For the Banana Bread Protein Waffles

  • Flour: Regular all-purpose flour creates the base of the waffle batter and helps keep the texture light and fluffy.
  • Naked Nutrition Vanilla Whey Protein Powder: Adds protein along with a subtle vanilla flavor that pairs perfectly with banana bread.
  • Cinnamon: A must for that warm banana bread flavor.
  • Nutmeg: Just a little nutmeg adds another layer of warmth to the waffles.
  • Salt: Helps balance the sweetness and bring out the other flavors.
  • Baking powder: Gives the waffles lift so they stay nice and fluffy.
  • Eggs: Help bind the batter together and add additional protein.
  • Ripe banana: Use a nice, ripe banana for the best natural sweetness and banana flavor.
  • Milk: Helps thin out the batter to the right waffle consistency. Use your milk of choice.
  • Plain nonfat Greek yogurt: Adds moisture, creaminess, and extra protein.
  • Vanilla extract: Enhances the banana and warm spice flavors.

For the Cinnamon Streusel

  • Cinnamon: Gives the streusel that classic cinnamon-sugar flavor.
  • Flour: Creates the crumbly texture.
  • Brown monk fruit sweetener: Adds sweetness and gives you that brown sugar-inspired flavor.
  • Butter: Brings the streusel together and makes it rich and buttery.

Tips for the Best Protein Waffles

Use a really ripe banana. Those spotty bananas sitting on your counter are perfect for this recipe. A ripe banana will be softer, sweeter, and have a much stronger banana flavor.

Don’t overmix the batter. Mix everything just until the ingredients come together. Overmixing can make your waffles denser rather than light and fluffy.

Let your waffle maker fully preheat. Adding batter too early can prevent the outside of the waffles from getting nice and crisp.

Every waffle maker is different. The amount of batter and cooking time will vary depending on the size and style of waffle maker you have.

Don’t overdo the protein powder. I specifically like the ratio of flour to Naked Nutrition Vanilla Whey Protein in this recipe because it gives you the added protein without making the waffles dry.

Topping Ideas

The cinnamon streusel is my favorite part because it really gives these that banana bread-inspired feel, but you can absolutely add more toppings.

Try them with fresh banana slices, a drizzle of maple syrup, peanut butter or almond butter, chopped walnuts or pecans, an extra sprinkle of cinnamon, or even another spoonful of Greek yogurt.

For even more banana bread flavor, add chopped walnuts or pecans right into the waffle batter.

How to Store Protein Waffles

These banana protein waffles are great for meal prep because they store and reheat really well.

Allow leftover waffles to cool completely before placing them in an airtight container. Store them in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

You can also freeze the waffles. Once completely cooled, place them in a freezer-safe bag or container with parchment paper between each waffle to prevent sticking. Freeze for up to 3 months.

How to Reheat Waffles

For the best texture, I recommend reheating these in the toaster or toaster oven. This brings back that lightly crisp exterior while keeping the inside soft.

You can also reheat them in the microwave if you’re in a hurry, but they will be softer rather than crispy.

If reheating from frozen, you can put the waffle directly into the toaster — no need to thaw it first.

Why Is Consuming Protein Important?

  • Protein is nutrient-rich, so it helps you stay fuller longer. You are more likely to eat less when you have high protein meals because you won’t have the munchies!
  • It boosts your metabolism & increases fat burning.
  • It increases muscles & strength. If you are lifting weights and not eating enough protein, you aren’t going to see much of a difference!
  • It lowers your blood pressure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make protein waffles with Greek yogurt?

Yes! Greek yogurt works really well in protein waffles because it adds moisture and protein to the batter. It helps these waffles stay soft and fluffy, especially since we’re also adding whey protein powder.

What protein powder do you use for protein waffles?

I use Naked Nutrition Vanilla Whey Protein Powder in this recipe. The vanilla flavor works perfectly with the banana, cinnamon, and nutmeg, and it blends easily into the batter.

Can I make these without protein powder?

This particular recipe was developed using protein powder, so removing it would change the dry-to-wet ingredient ratio. For the best texture, I recommend making the recipe as written.

Can I use frozen bananas?

Yes. Allow the frozen banana to thaw completely, then drain off any significant excess liquid before mashing and adding it to the batter.

Why are my protein waffles dry?

Protein waffles can become dry if there is too much protein powder, they’re overcooked, or there isn’t enough moisture in the batter. That’s why I love using both mashed banana and Greek yogurt in this recipe. They add plenty of moisture and help balance the whey protein.

What to Serve With Banana Bread Protein Waffles

These waffles are filling on their own, but you can easily turn them into a bigger breakfast by serving them with scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, fresh berries, or your favorite breakfast protein.

I personally love them with a little maple syrup and extra banana slices on top. Add a cup of coffee and you have the perfect cozy breakfast.
