The longer the chicken marinates the better, but you can still get a great grilled chicken with just 30 minutes of marinating! This recipe calls for very basic ingredients that you probably already have at home! I love making my marinades from scratch so there is no crazy added sugar, chemicals, and preservatives.
This recipe is a perfect family dinner and great for meal prepping! There are only 193 calories per 4 oz. serving. Serve this grilled chicken with my lemon orzo pasta salad for the ultimate dinner.

Ingredients
For the Chicken:
- Chicken Breasts – 24 ounces (1.5 lbs.) of boneless, skinless chicken breasts.
- Olive Oil – 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil to cook your chicken breasts in. If you are using an actual grill you won’t need this.
For the Marinade
- Soy Sauce – 3 tablespoons of low sodium soy sauce. You can also substitute for coconut aminos for a non soy option!
- Lemon Juice – 5 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice.
- Honey – 3 tablespoons of honey. See my tips below on how to pick out good honey!
- Garlic – I used 3 teaspoons of minced garlic but measure with your heart!
- Ginger – 1 tablespoon of minced ginger.
- Sesame Oil – 1 tablespoon of sesame seed oil to go in your marinade. Sesame oil gives this chicken the best flavor!
- Sriracha Sauce – 1 tablespoon of sriracha sauce, or to taste. I like my chicken to have a little bit of kick to it.
- Sea Salt – To taste
- Pepper – To taste
- Cilantro – Measure with your heart! I used 3 tablespoons of chopped cilantro.

How To Make It
- Add all of the ingredients for the marinade in a large bowl and whisk until fully incorporated. Reserve 1/4 of the marinade to top the chicken off with later.
- Place your chicken in the bowl with the marinade and marinate for at least 30 minutes (marinate up to 8 hours).
- If you are using a grilling pan or skillet, drizzle it with the olive oil and preheat the pan to medium/high heat.
- Add your chicken to your grill/skillet and cook for about 6 minutes on each side. Be sure to not continuously flip your chicken back & forth or you won’t get that perfect sear!
- Turn the heat down to a medium/low and pour your reserved marinade on top of your chicken. Allow to simmer for 5 minutes and serve.
How To Store Leftovers
You can store your leftover chicken in an air tight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. When you are ready to enjoy your leftovers, just pop them in the microwave for a minute or so.
My favorite storage containers are by the brand Razab. I do giveaways with them and truly love their products so much. All of their containers are BPA free, oven safe, freezer safe, dishwasher save, and have steam release valves! You can find them on Amazon here.
How To Choose Good Honey
People associate honey as being unhealthy but if you get the right kind it is actually very good and nutritious for you!
So I actually know a lot about honey because I went to an olive oil & honey farm in Crete Greece a few months ago! It was SO beneficial let me tell you and you can really taste the difference. I buy all of my olive oil and honey from Crete now and I will never go back!
- Get Raw Honey – Raw honey is honey that is free from any sort of tampering, processing, or heating. It is honey just how the bees make it. If honey goes through any sort of treatment it loses nutrients.
- Look for the word “unfiltered” – If honey goes through the pasteurization process, it often gets filtered. This eliminates all of those natural nutrients in honey!!
- Packaging matters – Try to get honey that is in a glass jar. It will last way longer and not be exposed to any harsh chemicals.
- Get Locally Sourced Honey – I buy my honey from Crete because it is locally sourced. Local bees make local honey so the pollen they collect and bring back to their hives are all sourced from local plants. Consuming honey that has these pollens can actually help combat stubborn allergies!
