Ingredients

  • Ground Turkey – I used 2 ponds of Butterball full fat ground turkey for this recipe! In this recipe, you need more fat to hold the burgers together. Reduced fat ground turkey will not work the same.
  • Fresh Chopped Spinach – Make sure you use fresh baby spinach, not frozen or your burgers will be very watery and fall apart. You will need 1 1/2 cups.
  • Worcestershire Sauce – 2 teaspoons, for flavor.
  • Feta Cheese – The star of the show!! You will need 4 ounces.
  • Mined Garlic – Measure with your heart, but I used roughly 1-2 teaspoons.
  • Olive Oil – For flavor & helps bind the burgers together and stay moist.
  • Garlic Salt & Pepper – About 1 teaspoon of each, or to taste.
  • Tzatziki Sauce & Buns – Try my Homemade Tzatziki Sauce an my Sourdough Hamburger Buns!
spinach and feta turkey burgers

Health Benefits

  1. Turkey: Lean ground turkey is a fantastic source of protein, with much less fat compared to traditional beef. It’s rich in essential nutrients like B-vitamins (especially B6 and niacin), which help support energy production and brain function.
  2. Spinach: This leafy green is a powerhouse of vitamins and minerals, particularly Vitamin K, Vitamin A, folate, and iron. It also contains antioxidants like lutein and zeaxanthin, which support eye health. Plus, spinach is a great source of fiber, making it a perfect ingredient for keeping your digestive system healthy.
  3. Feta Cheese: Feta is a flavorful cheese that provides calcium, phosphorus, and B-vitamins, supporting bone health and energy production. While it’s not as low in fat as some cheeses, using a small amount gives your turkey burger a creamy, salty bite without adding too many extra calories.

Equipment you will need:

Grill/Grilling Pan – I am not the biggest griller, and when I say that I mean with an actual outdoor grill. Also, if there’s bad weather being outside grilling stinks! As an alternative to using an outdoor grill, I use an Anolon 11 inch nonstick grilling pan. I get asked almost on a daily basis what kind of pan this is! You can find a link to the pan here. It is truly nonstick, easy to clean up, durable, and gives the perfect sear. I also love how it has a pour spout to easily dump out extra juices and grease. It’s also extremely affordable so you get the best of both worlds with this pan.

Instructions

  1. Mix the Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine ground turkey, chopped spinach, Worcestershire sauce, olive oil, spices, and feta cheese. Mix thoroughly until everything is well combined.
  2. Form the Patties: Shape the mixture into 8 evenly sized turkey burger patties. Place them on a baking sheet or plate.
  3. Chill the Patties: Place the patties in the freezer for 10-15 minutes to help them firm up. This step makes them much easier to handle on the grill and helps prevent them from breaking apart.
  4. Preheat the Grill or Grill Pan: Heat your outdoor grill or an indoor grill pan over medium to medium-high heat. If using a grilling pan, drizzle a little olive oil to prevent sticking.
  5. Cook the Burgers: Place the patties on the grill/pan and cook for 6-7 minutes on one side. Do not flip early! Be patient and let them cook fully on one side to prevent breaking.
  6. Flip Carefully: Flip each burger quickly and carefully using a spatula. Cook for another 6-7 minutes on the other side, or until fully cooked through and they reach an internal temperature of 165°F.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Serve with your favorite buns and sides and don’t forget to top them with my homemade tzatziki sauce for the perfect finishing touch!

Cooking Tips

Place the turkey burgers in the fridge or freezer for 10-15 minutes prior to grilling so that they can firm up a little. This prevents them from breaking apart on the grill. Be sure to use a full fat ground turkey as well or they will not hold up well. If you use a lower fat turkey, you will need to add in an egg and some bread crumbs or some other binding agent to hold the burgers together.

Do not move the burgers around. If you are consistently flipping the burgers back and forth on the grill they are more likely to break apart and they won’t get those perfect pretty grill marks. Wait 6-7 minutes until flipping your patties to the other sides and keep them on the grill until fully cooked.

Take away the uncertainty of judging the doneness of your burger by using a thermometer. When the burgers reach an internal temperature of 165°F, you know that they are fully cooked to perfection. If you cook them any longer they won’t be as juicy.

Air Fryer Instructions

Preheat your air fryer to 375°F. Lightly coat the air fryer basket with olive oil or cooking spray to prevent sticking. Place the patties in the basket, making sure they’re not touching. Cook for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through. Check the internal temperature to ensure the patties are fully cooked (165°F).

How To Serve

Serve these Spinach & Feta Turkey Burgers with your favorite buns & tzatziki sauce. I like to serve these with a side salad and my favorite potato chips by Vandy Crisps. Their ingredients are INCREDIBLE. Code

Alternative Serving Suggestions

  1. Lettuce Wrap: For a low-carb, gluten-free option, serve these turkey burgers in large lettuce leaves instead of a traditional bun. Romaine or butter lettuce works best, as they are large and sturdy enough to hold the patty without falling apart. This option is fresh, crunchy, and a great way to enjoy your turkey burger while cutting down on calories.
  2. On It’s Own: Skip the bun or wrap entirely and eat it on its own!
  3. Pita Bread: For a Mediterranean-inspired twist, you can serve your turkey burger in pita bread. The soft texture pairs wonderfully with the spinach and feta flavors, making for a satisfying, easy-to-eat sandwich.

Favorite Burger Toppings

Tzatziki sauce is my top choice. The refreshing blend of yogurt, cucumber, garlic, and dill adds a cool, creamy contrast to the savory turkey burger.

You could also add a spoonful of hummus for a rich, creamy layer, or top with sliced red onions and tomatoes for a burst of freshness. For an extra Mediterranean touch, try adding olives (green or Kalamata olives) or a sprinkle of crumbled feta. These toppings perfectly complement the spinach and feta in the turkey patty, enhancing the Greek flavors.

If you prefer a bit of heat, a drizzle of harissa or some hot sauce would balance out the creaminess of the tzatziki and add an exciting spicy kick.

Sides that Pair Perfectly with Spinach and Feta Turkey Burgers

These turkey burgers are delicious on their own, but pairing them with the right sides can elevate the meal to new heights. Here are a few healthy options that complement the Mediterranean flavors of the burger:

  1. Greek Salad: A classic Greek salad with cucumber, cherry tomatoes, Kalamata olives, red onion, and a simple olive oil dressing is the perfect side dish. It’s light, fresh, and packed with healthy fats and antioxidants from the olives and olive oil.
  2. Sweet Potato Fries: Sweet potatoes are an excellent source of fiber, Vitamin A, and antioxidants. Baked sweet potato fries seasoned with a little olive oil, paprika, and garlic powder are the perfect healthy side to balance out the richness of the turkey burger.
  3. Zucchini Noodles (Zoodles): For a low-carb alternative to fries, try zucchini noodles. You can spiralize zucchini into “noodles” and sauté them lightly with olive oil, garlic, and a sprinkle of Parmesan for a simple, healthy side dish.
  4. Grilled Vegetables: A colorful mix of grilled vegetables, such as bell peppers, eggplant, and zucchini, is a great way to add more fiber and nutrients to your meal. The smokiness from grilling pairs beautifully with the flavors of the turkey burgers.
  5. Quinoa Salad: A light quinoa salad with feta cheese, cherry tomatoes, and a lemon vinaigrette will add an extra layer of protein and fiber to your meal, making it even more filling and nutritious.
