Balsamic Turkey Burgers

balsamic turkey burgers pinit

These Balsamic Turkey Burgers are so juicy and flavorful! I will show you how to make the most perfectly caramelized onions to top these off with that make these burgers so. dang. good! I have played around a lot with these burgers to make them super tender & have the perfect blend of seasonings. I hope you give these burgers a try and love them as much as I do!

In this recipe (and many other recipes), I use ground turkey as a substitute for ground beef. Ground turkey is way lower in calories and fat. Ground beef is red meat as well, which is a no no for your heart! I honestly like the taste of ground turkey better too, which is a good thing! I know a lot of people complain about turkey burgers turning out dry. Trust me, if you cook them right with my tips & tricks below, they will be more juicy and tender than those beef patties.

Reasons to Love These Burgers

  • Great for Groups: These are super and easy to make and you can feed a good group of people (6). This is one of my favorite Summer grilling recipes.
  • Perfect Blend of Flavors: These burgers have the perfect amount of balsamic vinegar and tang to them! Now, if I were to make these without trying to be health conscious, I would add one more thing to these patties…bacon. I think this would be SO delicious. I’ve never actually tried it though, just thought of it haha! If you try it, let me know how it is!
  • Low Carb, High Protein: The macros of these burgers are INSANE! Each burger patty is only 179 calories, with 9g fat, 1g carbs, and 23g protein. You can keep these burgers low carb with some low carb burger buns as well. Royo Bread is my favorite company that makes low carb bagels, hamburger buns, and other bread. They are super healthy and have no preservatives! You can use the code COOKINGKATIELADY for 10% off on their site if you want to try them out!

Nutritional Benefits

  • Ground Turkey: Ground turkey is rich in protein, vitamin B, and other minerals, such as zinc.
  • Balsamic Vinegar: Believe it or not, balsamic vinegar actually has some awesome nutritional benefits. It is rich in antioxidants, which promotes healthy digestion and helps lower cholesterol.

Ingredients

For the Burger Patties

  • Ground Turkey – 1 1/2 pounds of lean ground turkey. I used 93% lean.
  • Yellow Onion – 1/4 of a yellow onion, diced finely.
  • Worcestershire Sauce– 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce. This is my secret ingredient to many of my turkey burgers.
  • Balsamic Vinegar – 1 tablespoon. Your balsamic onions will bring out more of the balsamic flavor.
  • Garlic Salt – 3/4 teaspoon.
  • Pepper – 1/2 teaspoon.
  • Garlic – To taste. I did 1 heaping teaspoon because I love a strong garlic flavor!
  • Almond Flour – 1 tablespoon of almond flour to help hold the burgers together.
  • Egg Whites – 1 tablespoon of egg whites to also help hold the burgers together.

For the Balsamic Onions

  • Onion – 1/2 of your favorite onion, sliced. I used 1/4 yellow onion and 1/4 of a red onion because that’s just what I had in my kitchen at the time haha! They honestly turn out the same after they are cooked down so much. Note: This recipe for the onions will make more than you will probably need.
  • Balsamic Vinegar – 1/4 cup of balsamic vinegar.

How To Make Them

  1. Heat up a small skillet that has a lid over medium heat. You can use a saucepan too if you don’t have a lid to your skillet.
  2. Add your sliced onions & balsamic vinegar (for the balsamic onions) to the skillet. Allow to cook for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally while you make your burgers. They will be perfectly caramelized by the time your burgers are done!
  3. In a large bowl, combine all of the ingredients for the turkey burgers. Mix until fully incorporated. I find it easiest to just use my hands to do this.
  4. Form 6 evenly sized patties and preheat your grill or grilling pan to a medium/high heat. I use a grilling pan by Anolon.
  5. Cook for about 5 minutes on each side, or until the burgers reach an internal temperature of 165°F Top your burgers off with the balsamic onions, a slice of provolone cheese, and anything else you would like!

Tips For Perfectly Cooked Burgers

  • Place the turkey burgers in the fridge for 20 minutes or so prior to grilling so that they can firm up a little. This helps prevent them from breaking apart on the grill.
  • Do not move the burgers around. If you are consistently flipping the burgers back and forth on the grill they are more likely to break apart and they won’t get those perfect pretty grill marks. Wait 5 minutes until flipping your patties to the other sides and keep them on the grill until fully cooked.
  • Take away the uncertainty of judging the doneness of your burger by using a thermometer. When the burgers reach 165°F, you know that they are fully cooked to perfection. If you cook them any longer they won’t be as juicy & tender!

How To Store Leftovers

You can store your leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
